How did you come up with the idea for VVGF?

Kirsty & Russell both converted to vegan diets in 2018 …….

Kirsty has been a long time vegetarian and Russell a meat & 2 veg type guy…

we didn’t really eat a lot of meat any way so it was an easy transition…..

Since we both changed to vegan we really struggled to find places that would cater for our lifestyle requirements –

It was difficult to know where to go without asking people, going into restaurants to ask or by searching online, especially as we were newbies!

A lot of it was by trial and error……..This was the light bulb moment 💡-

We thought why not have a website that has all this information in one place ready to go so VVGF was born !!!

The VVGF website allows you to easily search for Vegan, vegetarian or GF restaurants where ever you are …………taking the pain out of looking.

We asked our friend James to help with the tech the software, he has been Gluten Free for more than 7 years, so the synergy was perfect.

Grading system…..
This was a real challenge, how do we add value to users of the website, apply our experience to the restaurants that want to list on VVGF. Our rating system show how committed the restaurant is to catering to people that are either Vegan, Vegetarian or Gluten Free.

There are many definitions, classifications and versions of what constitutes Vegetarian – does it include Pescatarians, Lacto vegetarian, semi-vegetarian or Ovo vegetarian.
In the end we wanted to keep it simple,
5 V’s – Premises offers 100% of their menu as Vegan
4 V’s – Premises offer 75% of their menu as Vegan
3 V’s – Premises offer between 25% and 74% of their menu as Vegan
2 V’s – Premises offer between 1% and 24% of their menu as Vegan
1 V – Premises offer changes to menu dishes that can be made Vegan

For Vegetarian – The ratings are the same:
5 V’s – Premises offers 100% of their menu as Vegetarian
4 V’s – Premises offer 75% of their menu as Vegetarian
3 V’s – Premises offer between 25% and 74% of their menu as Vegetarian
2 V’s – Premises offer between 1% and 24% of their menu as Vegetarian
1 V – Premises offer changes to menu dishes that can be made Vegetarian

For Gluten Free –
5 V’s – Premises offers 100% of their menu as Gluten Free OR Accredited Gluten Free by Coeliac Australia
4 V’s – Premises offer 75% of their menu as Gluten Free
3 V’s – Premises offer between 25% and 74% of their menu as Gluten Free
2 V’s – Premises offer between 1% and 24% of their menu as Gluten Free
1 V – Premises offer changes to menu dishes that can be made Gluten Free

For this idea to work we needed restaurants and cafes onboard ………….

We invited them to list their business with us…………
